What is The American Sentry?
The American Sentry is an independent digital publication examining religion, liberty, conscience, and power. Through original reporting, historical analysis, commentary, explainers, and multimedia storytelling, we explore the ideas and conflicts that shape freedom of conscience in America and around the world.
How do you fund your investigations?
Our work is supported primarily by reader donations. We aim to maintain editorial independence by avoiding financial arrangements that compromise our ability to examine institutions, movements, or public controversies critically and fairly.
Can I submit a pitch or article?
Yes. We welcome freelance pitches and contributed articles that align with our editorial focus on religious liberty, church-state relations, freedom of conscience, history, civil rights, and the relationship between religion and public power. Submissions should be well-sourced, clearly argued, and written for a general audience.
Are your articles peer-reviewed?
Selected articles undergo review by an editorial panel and, when appropriate, by subject-matter experts with relevant historical, legal, theological, or policy expertise. While The American Sentry is not an academic journal, we use a structured review process to strengthen factual accuracy, sourcing, argumentation, and fairness before publication.
How can I subscribe to the publication?
You can sign up for digital access directly through our website membership page.
Do you offer physical print editions?
The American Sentry is primarily a digital publication, allowing us to respond quickly to developing issues and reach readers internationally. From time to time, we may also produce special print editions, thematic collections, or annual compilations featuring selected essays and investigations.
